Community Service Programs

In addition to the basic program of community and court annexed mediation conducted by DMS, the agency offers outreach to the community with the following programs:

1. DALLAS FAMILY DISTRICT COURTS – Judges and Associate Judges refer cases involving modifications and temporary orders to mediation at the George Allen, Sr. Courts Building in ADR mediation rooms on the 7th floor using volunteer mediators and the ADR Coordinator.
2. DALLAS HOUSING AUTHORITY – Mediation assistance is given to resident’s disputes and with Residents’ Council elections.
3. JUSTICE OF THE PEACE COURTS – Precinct 3, Judge Sandra Ellis in Richardson utilizes the on-site mediation program. Mediator, Irene Zucker, has made her nearby office at VerbaCom Executive Development available for these mediations. You may check the address and find out more about Verbacom Executive Development by checking the website: www.verbacom.com. Other Justice of the Peace Judges refer their cases to the main DMS Office.
4. NEXUS RECOVERY CENTER – An ongoing training in conflict resolution skill building with the availability of mediation of personal disputes between residents is presented monthly for residents who are in treatment.
5. CITY OF DALLAS RECREATION CENTERS – A weekly program of life skills training is presented by mediators at various centers. Emphasis is on conflict resolution, including anger management.
6. COMMUNITY FAIRS – DMS staff and mediators represent he Agency and its work at various community fairs each year.
7. NEWS MEDIA – Staff and volunteer mediators appear on various radio and TV talk shows. Public Service Announcements and news releases go out several times per year.
8. CORPORATE AND ORGANIZATION PROGRAMS – Presentations, training, and technical assistance are offered and provided on request.
9. VOLUNTEER MEDIATOR PRACTICUM – DMS provides practicums for newly trained mediators in order for them to gain experience.
10. TALK TO A MEDIATOR – DMS publicizes through radio and newspapers that residents of Dallas call in to talk to a mediator about a dispute or problem.
11. YOUTH CONFLICT RESOLUTION CENTER(YCRC) – DMS collaborates with YCRC, a local not for profit organization organized by DMS volunteers to offer training for youth referred by Municipal Courts in the County.
