Practicum Program

Practicum Program is offered to bridge the gap between classroom training and real mediations. This program gives newly trained mediators an opportunity to gain hands-on mediation experience. The accepted practicum trainees will participate in four mediations as observers, and then they are required to mediate a mock mediation in which they are assessed. Once they pass the assessment, they will do two co-mediations with veteran mediators. Following each mediation session, a debriefing will be held in which the trainee can ask questions. After the required co-mediations are finished, the Practicum is completed. The new mediator may then volunteer as mediator at Dispute Mediation Service. All volunteer mediators must have completed the Practicum before they can volunteer at Dispute Mediation Service, and volunteer mediators that have been inactive for one year or longer must retake the Practicum before they can volunteer.

Cost: $250
